Recent Work: Jessie + Chris

When Jessie, an old friend from high school, asked me to design her save the dates and wedding invitations, I was so excited. Not only is she a long time friend, but her proposal story (Chris carved a heart in an old tree where Jessie and him went hiking frequently and proposed the next day by the tree) gave me so much inspiration, I almost instantly knew what I wanted to do. Chris and Jessie have been together since our freshman year of college and everyone is so excited they are finally getting married (although everyone knew even when they were in junior high that the two of them would end up together). I feel so blessed to be able to help my close friends and be a part of their wedding celebrations…enjoy!

Jessie & Chris’ carved tree save the date, kraft envelopes and custom labels.

It snowed….a lot!

Remember that big snow storm I was telling you about on Friday? Well, it certainly did not disappoint. We got a little under two feet of snow here. Here are a few shots:

1) some of the snow Saturday 2) Bob (haha) 3) Bob + me

Let it snow!

The National Weather Service is calling for a 100% chance of 7-13 inches of snow in my area over the weekend! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good snow – but this couldn’t come at a worse time.  We have 2 holiday parties on Saturday, Christmas shopping to get done, more moving to do and tons of errands! It makes me sad that I may be missing the chance to see some friends this weekend!  Man, I should have bought an SUV instead of the Jetta. Haha.

Anyway, I picked up two jobs from the printer last night, so that means next week you will see some new work finally! I also am putting together an entire week of photographers that inspire me, so stay tuned for photography week!

Have a safe and snowy weekend!

Today I hit the jackpot and found these fabulous concert posters from A. Micah Smith. Below are some of my favorites, but you can view his entire collection on his official website.

Creme Brulee

It’s a fact, I LOVE Creme Brulee. I don’t know what was wrong with me as a child that made me think it was “nasty” – I was way off. These days I just can’t get enough. There’s a restaurant in my little town that has Lavender Creme Brulee on the menu and it is to die for. I mean amazing. I have to talk myself out of going there several times a week . . .

The love doesn’t stop there though. This weekend I grabbed a quick “pick me up” at Starbucks. Instead of ordering my usual, I tried their new Caramel Creme Brulee latte! OMG. It was amazing.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Where did the week go? It seemed to fly by, at least for me anyway. I’m sorry today’s post isn’t too exciting. It’s freezingggg here today (my car said it was 18 degrees, 18!) and tonight I have to start moving!! Ugh. Anyway,  I hope you have a great weekend! I’ll be back next week with another Etsy gift guide and some pics from a baby shower I’m photographing this weekend! Yay!

I can’t help but notice how much French macaron’s have been in the spotlight lately. What is a French macaron exactly? Well, I believe they are a traditional French pastry made of egg whites, almond powder, icing and sugar. They have a round meringue-like domes appearance with a flat base. Not to be confused with Macaroons, which are a sweet dense cookie made of coconut, egg white and coarse almond paste….and in my opinion, not nearly as pretty as the French macaron.

Here are a few places recently I’ve seen these beautiful delicacies:

DIY Holiday Macaroon Project over at Style Me Pretty.

Paulette Macarons (which you can buy online here!)

Ohhh, how I love the packaging! There are so many flavors too!

They are also showing up in weddings too! Like this one featured on Style Me Pretty.

and this one over at parcel post!

I think I need some macarons in my life! Have you had a chance to try these yummy treats? If so, where can I get some!?! Hhaha. Have a good day.

Last Night’s Dinner.

Although I’m feeling a little under the weather, I threw together a better tasty meal for  B and I last night:

  • Baked Pear Spinach salad with fresh Parmesan {bake cored, halved pears for 25 mins at 400 degrees}
  • Salmon with a brown sugar & mustard glaze {recipe} I baked this instead of grilling….too could out.
  • Sauteed green beans & cherry tomatoes with balsamic vinegary and garlic {recipe}

Exciting & Productive Weekend!

Phewww. It feels so good to get things accomplished!! Although I spent 85% of the weekend in front of the computer, I really got through so much on my to-do list. Logo for the Little Blue Cottage is almost finished, Jessie & Chris’ Save the Dates are on their way to the printer, Julie & Matt’s Save the Dates are on their way to the printer, Larissa  & Doug’s Save the Dates are almost done, Baby Luella’s Announcements are complete and web edits & business card comps for All Buttoned-Up are finished. Not to mention, half of my Christmas cards are written out, 7 loads of laundry are done & folded and I even went to the grocery store. Man. I was lucky enough to do all this and watch the snow fall outside my window. Love it. It’s really beginning to feel like the holidays.

Onto way more exciting news. My dear friend Jess got engaged this weekend! Her boyfriend  proposed in front of the Christmas Tree at Rockefellar’s Center during their weekend trip to NYC. I couldn’t be more estatic for the two of them.  Ahhh!!

Pang is awesome.

I know I’ve blogged about her before, but Pang is so awesome. Not only does she create the cutest little creatures but she is also an amazing photographer. I had the oppurtunity to use Pang to do a photo shoot for my cousin, Natalie, who is just starting her own event planning business (All Buttoned-Up). Pang had the greatest ideas, was so full of energy and made Natalie feel so comfortable. She’s such a pleasure to work with – I can’t wait until I have another chance to work with Pang again. Here is just a sneak peak of an image we shot during one of our breaks between locations. I happened to see that little treasure (an old window frame) in someone’s burn pile – jackpot.

L to R: Meg, Natalie (in the middle) & myself!

Happy Weekend!

I think everyone always has dreams of starting their own business and doing something cool everyday. (I’m not complaining, I have a cool job – one I love) For my brother, who’s an extraordinary cook, it’s starting his own restaurant. For my friend Meg, it’s starting her own clothing boutique.  For Mandy, another friend, it was starting a clothing boutique as well (and she did)!

I came across scissors.paper.cake yesterday and it was so inspiring! You have two people; Naomi (who I’ve blogged about before here) of hello naomi and Nathalie of imprintables. These two extraordinary women joined forces and created scissors. paper.cake. – perfectly styled parties. Everything from the decor to the food to the invitations is specular. My dream come true! You have to check out their site. Below are images from just one of their amazing events.

Paper Garland: Linea

Today I came across the most beautiful paper garland made by linea. I need everything in this shop.

Baltimore Weekend.

WOW. Well, I can finally say that the crazyiness of last weekend is finally over. I couldn’t mention it before because I didn’t want to spill the beans, but I threw a surprise birthday for my boyfriend on top of everything else that’s going on. Call me crazy, but it was so much fun. I had such a hard time keeping it a secret, but now that it’s over the party was so worth it. Believe it or not, this is the second year in a row that I surprised him! No more after this, I swear.

After the party, we spent the weekend in Baltimore to celebrate our anniversary. Honestly, I’ve always been a little skeptical of Bmore, but I’m glad we decided to give it a shot. It was amazing. Our hotel was awesome (all glass walls with great views of the Harbor) the weather was perfect and I had two of the most amazing meals I’ve ever had in my life.

The first, was this awesome tapas restaurant called Mezze, located right in the heart of Fells Point. The restaurant was packed when we got there, but now I can understand why. We literally stuffed our face with this amazing food and the best part was how affordable it was! The goat cheese stuffed roasted red peppers were my favorite!

The second amazing meal we had was at Miss Shirley’s. We arrived there pretty early in the morning so we could get a head start and I’m so glad we did! When we left, the wait for breakfast was almost two hours!! Geeez. Anyway, the restaurant was a few blocks away from our hotel but it was soooo worth the walk. The food was out of this world and the ambiance was just as good. I had pumpkin cheesecake stuffed french toast (which I wish I was still eating it right now).

I heart pennants

Right now I’m loving DIY pennants, especially in place of the traditional streamers & balloons. I’ve seen them popping up everywhere lately so here are a few of my favorites!

To make the lighted paper pennants yourself, Anna of Rifle design has a great tutorial over at Once Wed. Check it out here. All other pennants are available for purchase. (Green fabric banner from Dance in my garden, Mustard/Teal fabric pennant from pamwears,  mini pennant from knottednest, and Happy Birthday banner from Pinwhirls.)

Tonight: working on some self-promotion, putting away 87 loads of laundry, wrapping up a few things for some clients, making Bob & I’s Halloween costume, hanging out with some girlfriends, packing to go out of town….what a jam packed night!

So, on that note, have a Happy Halloween and a great weekend!

New Logo? For me?

For those of you who are a graphic designer – you probably have the same problem I do. Which is, the person you design for absolutely last is yourself.  In midst of everything that’s going on I threw this little number together last what. What do you think? I think the colors need to be switched up a little, but at least its a start!

Etsy Love: Ice Cream Social

The next couple of weeks are going to be pretty crazy for me. Designing for three weddings, an event planning business, a birthday party, my regular clients, running an Etsy store . . . the list goes on an on. I can’t complain though – this is what I love to do. I’m especially dying to show you an itsy, bitsy peak to Jessie & Chris’ Save the Date . . . but I can’t. She might kill me.

Anyway, I did want to share an adorable Etsy shop, Ice Cream Social. Visit their  blog too!

Sweet Treats

This weekend I didn’t do much, except for a lot of cooking and eating. Huge brunch on Sunday, pumpkin cookies on Saturday, Apple pie on Friday.  The cookies were amazing though. Here is the recipie.

Pumpkin Cookies
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 can of pumpkin pie filling
1 egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg; set aside. With mixer cream butter and sugar in large bowl. Add pumpkin, egg and vanilla; beat until light and creamy. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto greased cookie sheets. Smooth tops of cookies. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until light brown. Cool on wire rack. Yum.

Rainy Friday

This sums up my whole week . . .

My Sat/Sun plans have been postponed due to this yucky weather. That just means lots of coffee, movies and sleeping in. Happy Weekend!
